Consultation on draft privacy policy
Your views are sought on a draft privacy policy for Kelburn Municipal Croquet Club. It is intended that a final draft be put to the upcoming Annual General Meeting for adoption by the club.
Please provide feedback by 5 pm Sunday 8 May, by emailing kelburnmcc@gmail.com
Why a privacy policy
KMCC is required by law to have a privacy policy, and to publish and make the policy available to members and others including users of its website.
The purpose is to protect people's privacy in this age of digital information, to ensure it is clear how the club will handle your information, and what rights you have over use of your information.
Those of you who use digital information, smartphones, etc, and are in the workplace, will be familiar with privacy policies, which are in use internationally.
How we arrived at this draft
There are many ways you can create a privacy policy. The draft policy is based on a template provided by Sport NZ, which is the government body that provides resources to sports at all levels throughout New Zealand. Good legal advice would have been available to the Sport NZ creators of the template.
All members of the KMCC committee have put considerable time into adapting the template to align with what the club does and how it operates, now and in the foreseeable future. John Stevens, Lisa Thompson, and Colette Mackenzie, who are lawyers, have worked on it, and also Lesley Meadows, who has experience of working with the Privacy Act as well as other legislation applicable to the use and publication of information.
