England's Debbie Lines was the winner of the WCF Women's AC World Championship held in Christchurch from 7-14 January, in a final described by the Croquetnetwork.com News report as "thrilling".
Debbie Lines, who is also WCF Secretary-General, beat England's Gabrielle Higgins, by a score of 26-3, 19-22, 22-11, in a match that showcased the incredible skill and athleticism of these top-level croquet players.
The entire championship was thrilling. It featured 40 of the top female croquet players worldwide, making it a truly international event. The competition was fierce, with players from a variety of countries vying for the title of world champion.
It was good to be able to follow progress on Croquetscores.com, and watch the live stream on the Whakaata Maori YouTube channel, cheering on Kelburn members Alison Robinson, Baubre Murray, Marion McInnes, and Baubre Murray. They had us on the edge of our seats, watching. Congratulations all.
A special congratulations to Marion McInnes, who attracted a special mention by Croquet New Zealand and Stephens Croquet Club (Australia) for her achievement in playing in the final top 16, saying she is the oldest qualifier in the world ever, in any sport, to have achieved that level in a world championship.
